The students qualified for the national championship after placing among the top five at the USATF Region 2 championships at Cortland State University in their respective age groups and events.

They will compete against more than 10,000 athletes from across the country in various track and field events, ranging from sprints and hurdles to jumps and throws.

The students are: Talon Rowland, an incoming senior at Randolph, who will compete in the 400-meter dash; Gavin Stearns, an incoming senior at Randolph, who will compete in the high jump; Ethan Verbosky, an incoming sophomore at Maple Grove, who will compete in the 800 meters and 3,000 meters; and Declan Kennedy, an incoming senior at Southwestern, who will compete in the 110-meter hurdles.

“Each athlete who is attending this meet should be extremely proud of themselves,” said Nick Abdo, Chautauqua Striders Track Club coach. “All of these kids have already accomplished so much in their high school track careers, and with so much time ahead of them still — the sky is the limit. I really look forward to this meet and producing a positive experience and great results.”

2022 Youth Track & Field Development Program

Registration is open for our 2022 Youth Track & Field Development Program! It will be held on Mondays & Wednesdays from June 13 to July 13 from 6-8 pm at Strider Field. (Please note: the week of July 4th, sessions will be held on Tuesday & Wednesday July 5 & 6 from 7-9 pm). July 18 & 20 will be reserved for make-up session dates in the case of a weather cancellation.

Participants that register before June 7 are guaranteed a t-shirt. T-shirt availability will be limited after that. Late registration will be available at any practice or competition.

Cost: $75 per individual athlete; the fee is $60 per athlete in families registering more than one participant.

The purpose of the Youth Development Program is to encourage and promote participation and competition in the sport of track and field by providing a program for students ages 5-14. The program provides young athletes and their parents an introduction to the sport of track and field which is unique because it allows athletes to choose to sprint, hurdle, run, jump, vault, put, toss, or hurl. Some athletes might excel in one event while others enjoy the competition of many. Athletes will learn basic skills which can be applied to further athletic development.

Winter 5K Series 2022

The 2022 Chautauqua Striders Winter 5K Series begins on Saturday January 8, at Chautauqua Harbor Hotel in Celoron. Registration begins at 9:00 AM, with the race starting at 10:00 AM. Runners can sign up for the whole series, or for individual races.

This 5-race series is a 5K run which takes place on the roads of Celoron. Funds from the series support the Athletic Club and Athletic programming at Chautauqua Striders.

The Chautauqua Striders Winter 5K Series is a fun (and freezing!) “age-graded” race series, with races starting and finishing at the Chautauqua Harbor Hotel. Age-grading levels the playing field for all runners, just as a “handicap” is intended to do in bowling and golf. It provides the runner with the percentage value of an “ideal” or best time for his or her age and gender. Rankings for the series are calculated using the runner’s best 4 times.

Race Registration:

Series: $75*

Per Race: $20

*Athletic Club members receive a $10 discount

Online registration is at http://www.runsignup.com/striderswinter5k. To become an Athletic club member, go to http://www.runsignup.com/stridersathleticclub

Online registration for the series closes on January 7, and at 11:59 PM on the day prior to each race for individual races. ‘Day of’ registration available for each race and for the series.

Striders are also looking for volunteers to help steward the course. If you are interested in volunteering, or want more information about the series, contact Chautauqua Striders at 716.489.3489, or richard@chqstriders.org
