Our Story

Originally founded in 1979 as a local track club, Chautauqua Striders has since developed into a multifaceted community organization, proudly offering diversified programs that incorporate its mission to “Mentor and guide youth through education, advocacy and athletics.”

The not-for-profit agency, based in Jamestown, New York, provides tutoring, mentoring, outreach and athletic programs to more than 1,500 Chautauqua County youth annually. The goal of Chautauqua Striders is to help youth graduate high school inspired with the knowledge, skill, and confidence required for successful college and career experiences.

Chadakoin Valley Athletic Club established

1980

Track club re-named as Chautauqua Striders

Eric Healy became first athlete to win a national championship

1982

Chautauqua Striders incorporated as a non-profit

1985

Chautauqua Striders became a United Way agency

1990

Strider Field sports complex completed

2001

Chautauqua Striders selected to provide the academic enrichment component for after school programs established by the 21st Century Community Learning Centers grant

2004-2011

Expanded to include Hispanic Outreach and Northern Chautauqua County community-based tutoring and mentoring programs

2011

Participated in GEAR UP grant with Jamestown Community College and Dunkirk Public Schools

2011

Chautauqua Striders Mentoring established

2024

New logo launched to the public featuring a track “C” and graduation cap “S,” symbolizing the unity of education and athletics
